The Royal Conservatory is an internationally recognized method of teaching piano. It is one of the largest and most respected music education institutions in the world.
Students at Piano Orlando who show readiness to take their piano studies more seriously are selected by the teacher to work on music from the Royal Conservatory of Music. The program enables students, with teacher guidance, to work through the piano music that is at a level that is suitable for their ability. A qualified and experienced teacher prepares the students to take an official RC examination at a local university when they are ready. They perform pieces and scales and sight reading, and recognize rhythms and chords and intervals. Students earn an official grade from the RC judge, and this grade is recognized internationally as being from one of the world’s finest systems of music study and assessment for over 125 years.
Students learn the Royal Conservatory music during their regular piano lessons. The music is a collection of carefully selected and graded teaching pieces. The Repertoire series includes music from the Baroque, Classic, Romantic and contemporary eras, as well as music by some of the most popular North American composers, jazz and popular idioms. The Etudes series is designed to help students master a variety of technical and coordination skills including scales, chords and arpeggios.
A teacher of Royal Conservatory music needs to be qualified in teaching the material and guiding the students towards a high grade. So far, at Piano Orlando all students over a span of 30 years, have earned a grade of either First Class Honors or First Class Honors with Distinction, the two highest grades. Only a handful of teachers work with this method because it’s extensive for the teachers.
